Isometric and isotonic techniques offer the opportunity to work with inefficient muscular tension patterns, tone muscle tissue that has become flaccid, and smooth out any bumps or jittery grabs within the muscle spindles. By restraining movement or toning through movement while a muscle is engaged, we stimulate the nervous system and reciprocal inhibition, cue the self-correcting reflexes into action, and greater balance between opposing muscles or muscle groups is encouraged.
The process is remarkably quick, 8-10 seconds, and offers us a powerful tool to open stuck or contracted areas that do not respond to other techniques. The client is an active participant in this process, bringing self-awareness and recognition of the work. In this class isometric and isotonic exercises will be taught and practiced offering relief from chronic pain, rigid muscle patterns, postural imbalances, and more.
